About Me
Hi! For the past seven years, I've had the honor of working with children and teens diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, anxiety, language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, etc. My personal drive stems from seeing so many these highly-talented students struggle with reading, spelling, and writing not achieving their full potential - until they begin to receive the right intervention/treatment that works! I am passionate about developing positive and healthy relationships with my students - I believe this foundation is fundamental to teaching my students the skills they need to feel successful, achieve their goals, and build their self-confidence.
I am certified at the master level by the Barton Reading and Spelling System and implement the research-based Orton-Gillingham teaching approach. I am also certified as a registered instructor through the Institute for Excellence in Writing®. In order to further improve a student's spelling skills, I use the Structured Word Inquiry method (find out more about SWI here).
My professional experience includes educating students in a variety of settings including: private practices (in-person and online), independent public and private schools (e.g., Anchorage Public School, Highlands Latin School, Louisville Catholic Schools, Kentucky Country Day, etc.), and post-secondary higher education (Eastern Kentucky University's Department of English).
